About the event
WHY?
The Waiparous Creek watershed is a critical habitat for Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout - and both of these populations are listed as "threatened" under the federal Species at Risk Act. As part of Freshwater Conservation Canada's ongoing efforts to recover these fishes, we are working towards habitat improvements in the Waiparous Creek watershed. These efforts aim to decrease sedimentation (muddy run-off from trails and bare ground), improve riparian (shoreline) health, and improve habitat connectivity. Volunteers will contribute to the project by helping with direct on-the-ground improvements.
WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING
Volunteers will harvest and plant live willow stakes, pull noxious weeds, and distribute woody debris. These bioengineering efforts will help stabilize streambanks, vegetate restoration areas, and improve habitat for native species.
WHEN?
The volunteer event will occur on November 21 from 9 am to 3:00 pm.
Sponsor Event
Support from our donors and community has been instrumental in helping us continue working on critical restoration projects, develop new programs like Cooling Streams, adapt new restoration techniques such as LTPBR (Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration), and restore degraded habitat by improving water course crossing areas.
We seek your assistance in securing donation items or services as we work toward keeping Canada’s freshwater healthy and flowing.
To continue our fundraising efforts, TUC and our friends at Elevate Auction will be hosting a LIVE & SILENT auction Friday, April 11, 2025. We are asking for your help in securing donation item(s) or service(s) to enhance the assortment of quality merchandise up for auction.
