Cub Scouts Receive Top Award

Cub Scouts receive top award for Yellow Fish Road community service!

TUC’s Yellow Fish Road program was the inspiration for two young boys looking to make an impact in their community of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Their enthusiastic pursuit of the highest personal achievement of Cub Scouts, the Seeonee Award, was the driving force behind the boys dedicating over 15 hours of volunteer service. They made their community aware that stormwater does not get treated, and ‘Rain Only’ goes down the drains. Liam Vyselaar, first heard about the YFR program at a school presentation by Sue Bouchard, from the Partners FOR the Saskatchewan River Basin. He initially expressed interest in doing the program for his birthday party but decided to turn it into a personal journey.

Liam and his friend, Alex Foster, requested a presentation to their Cub Scouts Pack in May. They set out with their pack, painting 10 storm drains the same evening. Since their Cub Scouts Pack is named the 64th Lakers, the boys pledged to each paint 64 storm drains on their own time. With the help of their parents, Liam and Alex painted 76 and 67 drains respectively!

Congratulations to these ambitious boys and their amazing dedication to conservation stewardship and thanks to the 64th Lakers Cub Scouts for bringing awareness to their community.
