Enforcing Bull Trout Strategy

The Alberta Bull Trout Conservation Management Plan (March, 2012) and the Alberta Westslope Cutthroat Trout Recovery Plan (March, 2013) have both been endorsed by the Alberta Government.

Recently, Trout Unlimited Canada joined with the Alberta Wilderness Association, the Castle-Crown Wilderness Association, the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society to ask Kyle Fawcett, the new Minister responsible for Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, about the status of the work being done to protect bull trout and westslope cutthroat.

Trout Unlimited Canada along with the conservation partners is seeking information about progress towards ensuring, first, that these species, both designated “threatened”, are allowed to recover and, second, that ESRD is placing the requisite priority on habitat protection and restoration.  The partner sent a letter asking about a specific update on progress in some keys areas that are all part of the conservation and recovery plans for these two species.
