Kids Can Tie-Trout Unlimited Canada’s
Northern Lights Fly Fishers Chapter has a long history of offering kids the chance to tie a fly at trade shows, exhibitions and local youth groups. The chapter’s hope is that it would spark an interest in fly fishing and maybe one day lead to that child experiencing some of what many people value when they are on the stream or lake and become committed to some of the conservation values that TUC and the chapter supports.
Over the years many parents have asked if we have any advice on how to follow up on their child’s first tying experience and how to get other kids involved. In response to this question, the chapter wrote down what they have learned and with the help of a grant from the Alberta Conservation Association developed a brochure, “Kids Can Tie”, on introducing kids to fly tying. The brochure has received positive feedback so the Northern Lights Fly Fishers Chapter would like to make it available at no cost to other TUC Chapters interested in promoting fly tying.
A digital, ready to print copy is ready for chapters. For printing, the chapter recommends an 80lb text – dull or matte finish. Be sure that the printer does not scale the brochure or your folds will not end up in the correct positions.
To obtain a digital, ready to print copy or if you need any additional information or to provide any feedback regarding the brochure, please contact the chapter through its website.
