TUC needs your help!
Have you come across interesting sportfishing regulations during your travels? Are you a fisheries manager that has implemented novel strategies to protect or recover sportfish? Then we’d love to hear from you!

TUC is conducting a cross-jurisdictional review of recreational fishing regulations on behalf of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas. The Alberta government is interested in learning more about novel regulations to manage recreational fisheries and recover species-at-risk.
We would love to learn about how other agencies from Canada, the US, and the world utilize recreational regulations to manage their sportfish. Both current and historical regulations regarding inland fisheries (lakes and rivers) are welcome! Some examples of regulations we are interested in include:
Fish sanctuaries and year-round closures
Strategies to manage angler effort (e.g. limited entry to reduce fishing pressure)
Gear restrictions
This review is focused on native trout species in Alberta, such as Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout. However, if you know of any exciting regulations surrounding other trophy and rare fish, we would love to hear about them too!

Attention fisheries managers: If available, we are also seeking evidence that supports how certain regulations have recovered or maintained trophy fish or at-risk/rare populations. This could be in the form of literature or research used to justify implementing the regulation, or original data from monitoring programs.
If you have an interesting regulations you’d like to tell us about, please email Kelly at kriehl@tucanada.org to discuss it by email, or by phone.
