In order to provide the best scientific principles for the management of healthy aquatic ecosystems and sustainable fisheries, scientists from across Canada came together
to write a major paper that is being officially published in the NRC Research Press Journal, Environmental Reviews. The intent of the paper is to ensure that community groups and Non Government Organizations (NGO) have the best information for sound aquatic ecosystem and fisheries management at their disposal. Because of its value, the Editors of the Journal have made this open access for all that wish to download the article and its excellent charts at the end of the paper. Congratulations to Dr. Nick LaPointe et all for their great work!
Jeff Surtees, Trout Unlimited Canada CEO added, “We our very proud of the contribution of our own Director of Conservation Programs, Jack Imhof, to this very important article. The authors are some of the greatest thinkers on fisheries issues in Canada. They set out nine ecological principles that fisheries policy makers and managers cannot ignore. Then they recommend some important management strategies that respect those nine principles.”
TUC’s Director of Conservation Ecology, along with Dr. Nick LaPointe and Dr. Steven Cooke spearheaded this collaborative effort through their mutual professional affiliation with the American Fisheries Society and specifically their involvement with the Canadian Aquatic Resources Section of the AFS.
