Extra, extra read all about it. TUC welcomes a new Chapter!
TUC would like to extend a very warm welcome to our newest Chapter, the Millbrook Chapter, located in southeast Ontario, south of Peterborough. The Millbrook Chapter will focus first on the beautiful Baxter and Squirrel Creeks that meander through the town and surrounding landscape and eventually reach the Otonabee River. The goal of the chapter is to bring existing groups and residents together to work collectively to maintain and improve the stream system.
TUC staff had the chance to meet up with the interested community members back in May to chat with them about the changes they would like to see in their local watershed and how TUC could help them with their vision. It is clear that this new Chapter, in the hands of its President, Scott Calder and his wife Cori, is keen to take action and are already off to a great start.
The Millbrook Chapter will serve as a resource for landowners in the area who are looking for assistance with issues such as erosion, sediment control, bank stabilization, riparian planting, stream cleanup (to name a few) by providing assistance through volunteers and the professional network of Trout Unlimited Canada. The Chapter would like to ultimately improve fish populations, fish habitat, and the overall aesthetics of the landscape. All while having fun and making new friends!
The Chapter already has an active Facebook Page. Keep an eye there for upcoming events is a great way to see what they have coming up!
